Outdoor Floor Tiles

If you’re thinking of replacing your outdoor patio, we recommend our 20mm thick outdoor porcelain tiles. Designed to replace traditional stone or concrete pavers, they’re weatherproof, won’t crack or fade and feature certified slip ratings for peace of mind. You can use some of our indoor porcelain floor tiles to create paths and patios outside, but please check with us before you order. Ceramic floor tiles should not be used outside, as they’re likely to crack and fade in extreme weather.

Which tiles are best for floors?

Porcelain floor tiles offer all the beauty of popular materials such as marble, concrete and stone, with exceptional durability and performance. Much harder than traditional ceramic tiles and more affordable than expensive marble and slate, they’ll ensure your new floor looks its very best for years to come. And best of all, they’re remarkably easy to care for. 

What size floor tiles are right for me?

Tiles have dramatically increased in size in recent years and bigger slabs are ideal for creating contemporary interiors. However, this doesn’t mean that bigger is always better - personal preference still has a part to play, so take into account the size of the room and the look you’re wishing to achieve. As a guide: 
 

• 30 x 60 cm and 60 x 60 cm floor tiles are very popular for most rooms, including bathrooms and kitchens. 
• Tiles measuring 75 x 75 cm and above are perfect for open kitchens and family rooms.
• Smaller tiles are often laid in hallways and en-suite bathrooms, although they can also be laid to help define a larger space. 
   

Where can I use floor tiles?

Unlike other materials, tiles can be used on almost any floor at home. Porcelain floor tiles are extremely low-maintenance and durable, which makes them a natural fit for bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms and busy hallways or utility rooms. If you suffer from asthma, replacing the carpet in your bedroom with floor tiles might even help - as they’re a solid material, dust and allergens will have nowhere to hide.  

Can I use floor tiles on walls? 

As floor tiles as so durable and attractive, they’re often used to cover walls - particularly in wet areas such as showers and wetrooms. They tend to be thicker than traditional ceramic wall tiles, so always ensure that your wall can take any additional weight. 

Can I use underfloor heating with floor tiles? 

Yes, you can use both electric and water-based underfloor heating systems with ceramic, porcelain and natural stone floor tiles. Correctly installed, your heating system will require very little ongoing maintenance and allow you to lose bulky and unsightly radiators. 

What are the advantages of floor tiles? 

Floor tiles combine the aesthetic of natural materials such as wood and marble with the durability of vinyl and, if you opt for underfloor heating, the comfort of carpet underfoot. They’re also easy to keep clean and don’t harbour dirt, dust or bacteria, making them a very hygienic choice for your home - especially if you have pets or young children. 

Can I install floor tiles myself? 

In theory, floor tiles are relatively easy to install, especially if you’re experienced at DIY and have the right tools for the job. However, in practice, the ability to install tiles yourself will depend on the condition of your subfloor, the tiles themselves and the size of the room. Are floor tiles slippery? 

Some floor tiles can be slippery underfoot, while others offer more resistance. For example, a highly polished tile is likely to offer less grip than a matt tile with a textured surface. This means that certain floor tiles are better suited to wet floors, such as bathrooms. To help you make the right choice for your project, always check the slip rating of a particular tile first.
