That tiny crackled crazy-paving pattern that appears in the glaze of old Victorian tiles and other porcelainware is all part of the charm, adding to the patina and giving a classical appearance to what could be a mundane object. Our suppliers have perfected the art of creating this look from new, and the effect it truly beautiful. You might not notice it at first, but with every step you take closer to these crackle glazed tiles, the more the detail picks itself out. The most popular option is white crackle glazed Metro tiles, probably because the fissures stand out against the brilliant white background. It’s certainly a wonderful look, which will give any room a timeless appeal – it’s not unusual for visitors to think these tiles are original features (and it’s up to you if you tell them the truth). The pattern also comes out looking fantastic on other colours, however, so you don’t have to choose white if another colour would be better. We also stock crackle glazed hexagonal tiles for turning the interest levels up to the max. In contrast to the staid straight edges of the metro tiles, also have a look at the artisan range we have on offer; the edges have a hand-made appearance that really sets off the patina. You can zoom into the images in the product pages, but photos and screens can never really do justice to the subtlety of a quality crackled glaze tile – please order a sample to make sure it’s what you want. And on a side note: we recommend asking your tiler to seal before and after grouting to ensure the glorious rich glazes stay that way for years to come. Need further information? Read more here.
