If you’re looking to inject some New England seaside style into your home this summer, then whitewashed wood floors should be top of your to do list. Clean, calming and easy on the eye, they’ll soon have you dreaming of lazy days on the beach, sand between your toes and the sound of the sea rolling gently in.

Now let’s get back to reality. While real wood floors might look fantastic in the latest photoshoot from a hip Scandinavian interior designer, they can be both a pain to install properly and a pain to live with. If you think it’s a matter of slapping on a coat of white emulsion onto the floorboards then think again – you’ll soon be cursing yourself before the paint has even had time to dry.

Floors like the one pictured below by Blakes London look great but they’re expensive to buy and even more expensive and specialist to fit. Floors like this tend to be hardwood parquet which is fitted and then sanded back before final colouring.
But don’t let this put the brakes on your nautical design ambitions. Our porcelain wood effect tiles are here to save your sinking ship. What’s that I hear you say? Wood effect tiles? Precisely that.

And don’t be fooled into thinking they’re anything less than the real thing. The great thing about wood effect tiles is that they’ve been created using the latest inkjet printing technology. Ultra high resolution scans are made of hundreds of different pieces of real wood and these are then printed onto the surface of the porcelain tile before being fired at extremely high temperatures in a kiln, creating the finished product. Not only do they come out looking great, they’ll also keep you calm when it comes to caring for and living with them.

So just what are the benefits of these wood effect tiles? Here’s a few plus points:

Porcelain is as resilient as floor coverings come

Waterproof ? Check. Stain proof? Check. Mucky dog paws proof? Check. The list goes on and on. Don’t believe us? Order a free sample and test for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.

Porcelain tiles are great for use with underfloor heating

We’re not necessarily blessed with year long sunshine and balmy temperatures so we could do with a little warmth underfoot when winter sets in. Our wood effect tiles are generally 9-11mm thick and are perfect for use with both electric and plumbed underfloor heating systems. The heat rises through them quickly and because their highly insulating, they retain their warmth brilliantly.

Taking the inside out

If you want to create a seamless inside/outside look then you’ll be pleased to know that all porcelain tiles can also be used outside. They’re frost proof and they won’t rot, warp or crack over time. So these wood effect planks can be continued out onto your patio, veranda or terrace with no problem whatsoever. Unlike traditional decking, they won’t go green and mossy over time and as many have a textured surface they’re much better and safer underfoot.

Great I hear, you say, but where are the tiles? Without further ado let me introduce you to two of our best options for creating that whitewashed wood floor look using wood effect tiles:

1. Oslo White – £22 per m2

2. Timber White – £26 per m2

So what are you waiting for? A calming, stress-free space is just around the corner.
